13.Shabbat fish

This fish is based on an embroidery from the beginning of the 19th century, which itself is based on the traditional leviatan, the great fish that will be present at the end of days. The fish could be embroidered as a wall-hanging, but would also be eminently suitable as challah cover for shabbat, since it's customary to eat fish at the shabbat meals. As it's said: he who eats fish on the day of the fish is saved from the fish! Around the fish is a verse from the shabbat prayers. 
It's 50 by 50 cm, on a square piece of material. The design is hand-printed on off-white, washable material, and comes with a beautiful blend of sea-water colours - green, beige, blue, silver and mauve embroidery threads, a needle, instructions and stitch diagrams.
