"Hamsa" means five and refers to the open palm of a hand. the hamsa-shaped amulet is popular in Israel and is used in jewellery and wall-hangings. It's thought to be a protection against the evil eye. It is sometimes referred to as the hand of Miriam, in remembrance of the biblical Miriam, sister of Moshe and Aharon.
It's intermediate level, size 25 by 35 cm. The design is hand-printed on off-white washable material and comes with instructions and stitch diagrams, needle and terracotta, orange, dark and light blue embroidery threads.
